If you want the green space and village atmosphere that living in SW London offers, you should expect to pay a premium for it. The most expensive place to buy in this area is South Kensington, SW7, which is the home of Harrods and Harvey Nichols, as well at the V&A, the Natural History Museum and the Royal Albert Hall. To live near all of these iconic attractions, you’ll pay an average of £2,452,124.
Chelsea is another area where prices are high. Here, the average property price is £2,376,217, and perhaps unsurprisingly, SW1, which covers Central London, is also pricey. This covers the swanky districts of Belgravia, Whitehall and Buckingham Palace, amongst others, and the average property sells for £1,525,082.
Slightly further out, West Brompton is another expensive area to buy a house in SW London. A quiet, affluent residential area, SW10 is favoured by young families and couples buying their first home. Prices here average £1,063,693. Barnes is our final expensive district, where you’ll enjoy larger houses with gardens, a village-like atmosphere, and some of the city’s finest private schools. Expect to pay for these attractions as houses here average £1,635,621.
If you dream of owning a house in SW London, there are some more affordable areas to check out. Streatham, SW16, is one such district. Just 20 minutes from Victoria, it’s a good choice for commuters who want more bang for their buck. Prices average £418,569.
Stockwell, SW9, is another good option. Here you can find plenty of mansion flats for sale, which are perfect for young couples buying their first home. Prices in Stockwell average £451,831. For an achingly cool, up-and-coming area, Brixton is surprisingly affordable. It’s cheaper and edgier than Shoreditch, and delightfully multicultural. Houses average £508,004 in SW2.
You could also look in Tooting, SW17, where house prices average £546,840, or try South Lambeth, another area which is undergoing rapid gentrification. There, you can expect to pay an average of £792,353 for a property, and you’ll have a choice of town houses, terraces and modern flats.

There’s no doubt about it: if you want the luxuries of SW London life, including expansive green spaces and cultural attractions, there is a hefty price tag. However, if you know the right areas to look, you can still enjoy living in the south west, for a far more affordable price.
