East Finchley, in the N2 postal district, is another of North London’s most expensive regions to buy a property. There, properties sell for an average of £3,839,811. East Finchley is home to the Bishops Avenue, which is one of the world’s wealthiest streets, featuring multi-million-pound mansions.

Houses in the N1 postcode district, sometimes referred to as Northern Head, fetch an average of £744,933. This is central London, where you’d expect properties to be well above the national average, and includes areas such as Kings Cross, Pentonville, Islington and De Beauvoir Town.

Highbury is another notable district when it comes to North London’s most expensive areas. With period homes, excellent travel links to the city centre, and easy access to all the amenities of Islington, this is a popular area for those who want the best of both worlds, and homes on average command £840,409.

Muswell Hill is a lovely urban village, featuring epic views over the city, expansive green space and independent shops and restaurants. Living in such idyllic surroundings doesn’t come cheaply, though, and the average house price in this area is £908,435, which has increased by 10.56% over the last 5 years.

North London’s cheapest areas

At the other end of the scale, there are some areas in North London where home ownership is a far more achievable dream. This includes the district of Lower Edmonton, N9, where the average house price is £311,705 – although even that has increased by 9.95% over the last 5 years. It’s a hidden gem with a diverse population and good transport links to the city centre.

Its neighbour Upper Edmonton, N18, is another of the north’s most affordable areas, with the average house price sitting at £312,447. It’s a great choice for families, with plenty of child-friendly activities and green spaces.

Tottenham, N17, is a multicultural area, which is directly connected to the city centre via the Victoria line. Average property prices in this area are £365,619, and it’s a popular district with families thanks to its many parks and riverside location.

Nearby, South Tottenham, N15 is another area in North London with more affordable house prices. Here, the average paid is £425,223. That’s still a 10.54% increase over the last 5 years, which reflects the regeneration the area has undergone in recent years.

Finally, Palmers Green is another of the cheaper areas for buying a house in North London. It’s a family-friendly area, with a vibrant, community feel where the average house price is £562,413.

Up-and-coming areas in North London

If you love the idea of living in the countryside, but love all the amenities a big city has to offer, then Whetstone, N20, is the perfect choice to buy a home in North London. It has a rural feel, yet is just 30 minutes from the city centre, and houses here go for an average of £655,358, which has increased by 11.04% over the past 5 years.

Southgate N14, is another up-and-coming area thanks to its abundance of green spaces, excellent transport links and lovely village feel. Here, houses currently sell for an average of £477,469, a figure that has increased by 9.98% over the past 5 years.

Finchley, N3, is popular with young professionals which has helped to secure its status as one of North London’s most up-and-coming areas. The average house price here is £585,421 which has increased by 8.81% in the last 5 years.
