The Help to Buy Scheme has now closed to new applications. Builders may be offering shared equity and other promotions, but these are not backed by the Government, as Help to Buy was.
Saving up for a deposit to buy a home can seem like an incredibly stressful — and oftentimes impossible — feat.
The good news? Getting a foothold on the property ladder is now easier than ever thanks to the Help to Buy scheme, a government-backed incentive that helps you with up to 15% of the purchase price of a new build home.
And, since there are plenty of Help to Buy properties available in Glasgow, it’s entirely possible to secure your dream home in Scotland’s largest city with as little as a 5% deposit.
You can search for a range of Help to Buy homes and new home developments on property websites such as Rightmove, Barratt Homes and Smart New Homes.
Simply put, the Help to Buy scheme is a government-funded initiative designed to help first-time buyers and existing homeowners purchase their new build home.
Through the scheme, you’re able to purchase a property with a 5% deposit and an 80% mortgage. The remaining 15% is provided by the government as an equity loan, which is interest-free for the term of the loan.
You can only use this scheme to purchase a new build home, however, and the maximum qualifying property value is £200,000.
The Help to Buy scheme has recently been extended for a further two years and will be available until March 2021 in Scotland – which means now is the perfect time to take advantage of this incentive.
If you’d like to learn more about the Help to Buy scheme rules and whether you’re eligible to apply, don’t hesitate to contact us today. Our friendly mortgage advisors are available to answer any questions and help guide you through the entire application process.
