The Help to Buy Scheme has now closed to new applications. Builders may be offering shared equity and other promotions, but these are not backed by the Government, as Help to Buy was.
For first-time buyers, the biggest hurdle to buying a house is often the deposit needed. That’s why the government has introduced the Help to Buy scheme, designed to help more people achieve their dream of owning their own property.
Help to Buy allows you to take out an equity loan from the government, of 15% of the property value. That means you need to save a deposit of just 5%, and in total, you’ll only need an 80% mortgage on your home.
Here are a selection of the current range of Help to Buy houses available in and around Durham. Take a look to find out more about each area.
Central Durham is a highly sought-after area. With a historic city centre, including the UNESCO World Heritage sites of the cathedral and castle, it’s certainly a picturesque place to buy a house. Living in central Durham means you’re close to everything the city centre has to offer, including great transport links to the rest of Country Durham, and nearby cities like Newcastle and Sunderland.
