selected branch: Brighton and Worthing
Tempted to move to the buzzy, metropolitan seaside resort of Brighton or the nearby town of Worthing? With easy access to London as well as being a cultural, creative centre in its own right, there’s an increasing number of people looking to settle down in Brighton. If you’re looking to join them, here are the best areas to live:
One of the largest parks in Brighton covering more than 60 acres, Preston Park is a great choice for families and those who like the idea of living close to green space. The homes here range from Victorian terraced homes to modern flats, meaning there’s something for everyone. There’s a huge variety of events that take place in Preston Park throughout the year, including Brighton and Hove Pride, the start of Brighton Marathon and plenty of events during Brighton Festival.
Kemptown is one of the most vibrant areas in the city, once attracting actors and actresses, and now home to a sizable LGBT community. Many of the houses here are in the Regency style, as well as Victorian architecture and some modern buildings scattered throughout. It’s a great location in which to buy a property if you like to be surrounded by amenities – you’ll find a plethora of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs here.
The Lanes is Brighton’s best-known shopping district. A tightly woven network of independent shops, the Lanes and North Laine are the cultural quarter of Brighton. Although best-known for shopping, this area also has several residential properties which particularly suit first-time buyers and young professionals.
Less than a mile from Brighton train station, Hanover is a great choice for professionals commuting into London. The area has a tight-knit community, with an active Hanover Community Association representing the local community and running a series of events during the year.
Hove is generally more affordable than neighbouring Brighton, but it still has a vibrant community and a great selection of restaurants, cafes and bars. It’s highly rated by families for the excellent schools in the area, and it’s consistently rated as one of the safest places to live in the UK.
